White water sports

White water sports are off to a fresh start with the early opening of the season by Crazy Water Rafting on March 21, offering a range of thrilling activities on the Ubaye River, including rafting and hydrospeed. At this time, the snow begins to thaw, offering the ideal opportunity to experience the first sensations of white water. In general, we have a maximum flow rate of 30 cubic meters per second, allowing rafting navigation along the “Best of” route from Martinet to Lauzet Ubaye.

Winter Sports – skiing

Some of you, depending on your location and snow conditions, will still be able to enjoy the joys of skiing with the Praloup resort, which tends to close its doors on April 15. During this period, especially in the morning, the snow still offers pleasant conditions for skiing.

In the afternoon, with the rise in temperatures, it becomes softer, hence the interest in taking walks near the lakes or, for the more sporty, in treating yourself to arafting descent on the Ubaye for a refreshing experience.

Hiking

Although the snow persists at altitude, the hiking trails at Barcelonnette become practicable. It is recommended to obtain information from the Tourist Office of Barcelonnette and, if necessary, bring snowshoes. If cold and snow are not your preferences, we advise you to explore the walks around Lake Serre-Ponçon, where the weather is often milder. Discover our selection of hikes around Lauzet Ubaye, or contact the Serre-Ponçon Tourist Office in Savine le lac who will be happy to guide you.
Don't miss the unmissable walk to the Pic du Morgon, the region's hike to gain altitude and enjoy a 360° panoramic view above the Serre-Ponçon lake and the Ubaye valley.

Village to visit

Discover Barcelonnette

Barcelonnette, the capital of the Ubaye valley, remains an essential place to visit during the Easter holidays. In a spring atmosphere, explore its lively pedestrian streets, imbued with a unique mountainous atmosphere. Don't miss the Mexican-style villas that surround this charming town. An authentic experience awaits you, combining mountain culture and unique architecture.

St. Vincent-les-Forts

We highly recommend visiting the picturesque village of St. Vincent-les-Forts, perched majestically above the Serre-Ponçon lake. From here you can contemplate the impressive grandeur of the lake, offering a breathtaking view. A getaway to St. Vincent-les-Forts promises a memorable experience, between village charm and spectacular panorama of one of the most beautiful lakes in the region.

Savine the lake

We can say that it is the emblematic port of Lake Serre-Ponçon. During the Easter holidays, activities on the lake are not always guaranteed, since the greenhouse lake is not yet full. The village is a must for anyone traveling to the Ubaye valley from the North of France. Crossing Chanteloup Bay with its small chapel in the middle of the water, on the road leading to La Demoiselle Coiffée, just 20 minutes from Crazy Water, you will be seduced by the charm of the surroundings of Savine le lac.

Wonderfull family rafting experience. Just a little bit too much for my sensitive eight year old, but great overall. The river is beautiful with nice surroundings. The guide was excellent (forgot his name 🙄) and the whole team was very nice. The trip down the river took about one and a half hour with some stops. If you visit this place, your're not gonna be sorry! 👍🏻

Encore merci. Jérôme, Caroline, Charlotte et Manon.

We did two descents, one by raft and one by kayak, both with Julien as a guide. He seems totally crazy when you first meet him, but he was a great guide and made our day. Really spectacular river, with a lot of rapids and great views. We got out of the boats to swim a bit in one of the rapids and they took us to a rock where we could jump in to the water. Julien and the crew of Crazy Water are real professionals, but in for a laugh and a joke. A pity we could'n do the 'sport' descent, because of bad weather. But we sure come back. One remark; their 'bar' is quite empty, so make sure to bring your own drinks and food if you're planning to stay for a day.
